The ever-changing and escalating nature of U.S. President Donald Trump’s foreign policy decisions is causing increasing anxiety and concern, not only for global leaders, but for ordinary citizens as well.
While many adults may have difficulty understanding some of the demands and directions coming from the Oval Office, the same is true of children who may be aware of the anxieties surrounding the latest news headlines.
Psychologist Dr. Janine Hubbard says for children it’s important first to understand what they’re hearing and what they know.
She says the first step is to ask children what they know and provide answers and reassurance in age appropriate language. For teens, she says it’s important to speak candidly and if you don’t know about the politics surrounding Venezuela for instance, sit down and learn it together with your teen.
