After some rough waters, writer-director Tommy Wirkola‘s (Dead Snow, Violent Night) shark thriller is swimming to Netflix this year.

First announced as Beneath the Storm, the film was originally set for a theatrical release on August 1 from Sony. It was then bumped up to July 3 with the new title Shiver.

Now untitled — likely due to Tim Miller’s time loop shark thriller also called Shiver — Wirkola’s film has been removed from Sony’s theatrical release calendar.

Deadline has learned that it will instead head to Netflix, who has a first-look deal with Sony for the studio’s direct-to-streaming titles.

Plot details remain under wraps, but the movie stars Phoebe Dynevor (“Bridgerton”), Whitney Peak (Hocus Pocus 2), and Djimon Hounsou (A Quiet Place: Part II).

Wirkola produces alongside HyperObject Industries’ Adam McKay and Kevin Messick.

“We couldn’t be more excited to be back in business with all our friends at Netflix on this film,” said McKay. “We had a great experience together on Don’t Look Up and look forward to working with them to make this an event streaming release in 2026.”

Wirkola also has Violent Night 2 due out on December 4, along with the adult animated comedy Spermageddon on the way.
