The vibrant spirit of the Caribbean pulsed through Brooklyn on Thursday, August 28, 2025, as the Caribbean Music Awards returned to the iconic Kings Theatre for a dazzling evening celebrating the rich sounds and cultural pride of the islands. From Reggae to Soca, Dancehall, Kompa, Bouyon, Zouk, and beyond, the event was a bold, joyful showcase of Caribbean music’s global impact.
Hosted by none other than the “King of Caribbean Comedy,” Majah Hype, the ceremony was a high-energy blend of laughter, live performances, and heartfelt moments that honored both musical excellence and community contributions.
The night kicked off with a powerful presentation, as international reggae star Serani took the stage to present the first award: ‘Reggae Collaboration of the Year’, which went to Buju Banton for the spiritually charged track “Thank You Lord” alongside Bugle and Damian Marley.
Dancehall legend Bounty Killer was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by Hip-Hop stars Swizz Beatz and DJ Khaled
One of the night’s most emotional highlights came when reggae icon and activist Sizzla Kalonji received the Humanitarian Award, presented by Grammy-winning artist Mýa. The moment served as a heartfelt recognition of Sizzla’s decades of dedication to uplifting communities across the Caribbean.
Rising Dancehall artist Armanii was honored with the Dancehall Impact Award, while the genre’s reigning queen Spice claimed Dancehall Performer of the Year, solidifying her dominance on stage.
But the night undoubtedly belonged to Shenseea, who walked away with five wins, bringing her total CMA tally to six—making her the most awarded solo artist in Caribbean Music Awards history.
The 2025 CMAs were more than just an awards show; they were a festive, unapologetically Caribbean celebration of sound, soul, and heritage—proving once again that the region’s music is not only enduring but ever-evolving and deeply influential on the world stage.
