Following our previous look at an opening for a Senior Manager of Exhibition Design at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, we are using this week’s edition of our Job Highlights series to explore an open role on Archinect Jobs for a Designer at Rafael Viñoly Architects.

The position, based in New York, calls for a “creative, technically proficient, and highly organised designer who thrives in a collaborative studio environment.” Among the responsibilities are to support design production in concept phases, including 2D drawings, 3D models, renderings, and presentation desks, and to produce and coordinate technical drawings. The role calls for proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino, Adobe Creative Suite, and high-quality rendering software such as 3ds Max.

The open role at Rafael Viñoly Architects offers us the opportunity to explore recent notable developments by the firm. Last year, the firm’s National Medal of Honor Museum opened in Arlington, Texas, which local critic Mark Lamster praised for its unifying “sublime force” and “uncompromising assertion of abstract form.” The design comprises 102,000 square feet and features a box-like, aluminum-clad primary exhibition hall that hovers 40 feet above the ground, supported by stainless steel pylons that tell the individual stories of over 3,500 Medal of Honor recipients dating to the award’s inception during the Civil War.

In 2024, the firm offered a look inside The Greenwich, a 912-foot, 88-story tower in New York’s Financial District. Interiors for the scheme were led by Mark & White, with each apartment creating one of three (Terra, Aqua, and Stratus) earth-toned color palettes designed to match the corresponding vistas at each level. Months previous, the firm had unveiled its first project in Canada, with a two-million-square-foot mixed-use development in Midtown Toronto.

In Italy, meanwhile, the firm recently unveiled plans for a new international terminal for the Aeroporto Amerigo Vespucci in Florence. The airport’s most unique feature is a 19-acre vineyard gently sloping upwards atop the building, covering the terminal below. The landscape will see 38 rows of vineyards to both contribute to the airport’s LEED Platinum rating and symbolize “Italy’s rich traditions and innovative spirit.”
