Chris Pratt gave his most recent update on his potential involvement in the DC Universe, addressing long-running fan speculation about whether he could take on the role of Batman. The actor spoke about his connection with DC Studios co-head James Gunn and clarified where things currently stand regarding any future casting.
Why Chris Pratt definitely won’t be Batman in DCU
Chris Pratt confirmed during an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz that he will not be playing Batman in the DC Universe. “I sent [James Gunn] a picture of myself with a Batman mask on. It was actually Photoshopped. He just said, ‘Haha.’ So, it’s safe to say I’m not going to be Batman,” Pratt said. He added, “I don’t know how to do it anyway… It was never an option. And I don’t think I would be right for that.”
Pratt elaborated that the many existing portrayals of Batman make the role creatively difficult. “You’re always going to be compared against the people who have played the character before… It’s a tough gig for anybody to get.” He also joked, “Oh, I’m Batman,” in a Mickey Mouse-style voice, highlighting how hard it is to find a fresh take.
Pratt tells the status of his DCU role
Chris Pratt confirmed no current DCU role is planned for him. “I always try to lead with mystery… but in all honesty, I don’t know. I don’t know what that character would be.” He said he would like to work with James Gunn again, but no specific plans exist.
Pratt acknowledged that while there are roles he could play, “there’s nothing” official. He did not hint at any ongoing discussions for a specific character, saying only that he’d “love to work with [Gunn] again.” This follows speculation linking him to characters like Booster Gold, which remains unconfirmed.
Chris Pratt ruled out Batman, citing a lack of fit and no discussions beyond a humorous exchange with Gunn. He clarified that no character in the DCU has been assigned to him and no active negotiations are underway.
While he is open to future collaboration with Gunn, as of now, there is no DC role confirmed.
