Recent leaks have suggested that Xiaomi is working on an Apple AirTag competitor, and a report from early December 2025 hinted that it would be officially introduced soon. The company has launched several new products since then, but the “Xiaomi Tag” has not seen any official exposure at the last launch event.
Now, snippets inside the latest HyperOS codebase have revealed the initial information and design of the tracker. As spotted by @kacskrz, the initial design renders within the code suggests that it will feature an oval shape with an integrated keychain loop.
Within the code base, there are references to two models, one coming with ultrawideband and one without. It seems both will be similar in terms of design, and both will rely on a CR2032 battery, the same one that powers trackers like the Samsung Galaxy SmartTag 2 (curr. $21.73 on Amazon).
What’s rather disappointing, however, is that the codebase suggests that the Xiaomi Tag will remain China-exclusive, as there are references for CN models only. Of course, this doesn’t eliminate the chances of it launching internationally after the Chinese launch.
It’s also unclear when this Xiaomi tracking device will launch, but given that the tracker has made it into the HyperOS codebase, it may make an official debut soon. This debut could happen after the Redmi Turbo 5 series launch event.
