Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried get a little too close while sharing a mansion in the trailer for the forthcoming feature The Housemaid.

Lionsgate releases director Paul Feig‘s thriller in theaters Dec. 19. Brandon Sklenar, Michele Morrone and Elizabeth Perkins round out the cast for the movie that adapts author Freida McFadden’s novel of the same name.

The Housemaid centers on Millie (Sweeney), who lands a job as a housemaid to wealthy couple Nina (Seyfried) and Andrew (Sklenar) before learning that the pair hide dangerous secrets.

“I need this job,” Sweeney says in the trailer. “I can’t lose it. I do not want to go back.”

Feig helmed the film from a script by Rebecca Sonnenshine that adapts McFadden’s 2022 best-selling book.

Producers include Todd Lieberman for Hidden Pictures, alongside Feig and Laura Fischer for Feigco. Serving as executive producers are Sweeney, Seyfried, McFadden and Alex Young.

Feig and the film’s stars took the CinemaCon stage in April to debut the first footage for The Housemaid. “Tension and scares and comedy are so wrapped together,” Feig explained about why he was drawn to a thriller despite being known for projects with laughs. “It was a dream come true.”

Sweeney told the crowd that she was a big fan of the source material. “I’m a big book lover — I love reading books,” the star said before praising McFadden’s Housemaid trilogy. “I could not put it down. I ended up reading all three in one week.” She added about the project, “There’s characters that are flawed, and they are messy.”
