Legend of Zelda live-action film shoots at Paradise near Queenstown

It will be the very first film in the Zelda universe, created in 1986 by Shigeru Miyamoto, the co-producer of Super Mario.

Legend of Zelda video games commonly feature protagonist Link, a heroic elf warrior who battles his way through a fantasy world filled with monsters to aid Princess Zelda.

Both roles will be played by newcomers to major motion pictures – Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (Link) and Bo Bragason (Zelda).

The gaming series has sold more than 140 million units worldwide.

A source told the Herald that the film crew have hired close to 300 rooms around Queenstown. The budget for the film is unknown.

Hollywood has been a frequent visitor near the shores of Lake Wakatipu.

Paradise was a film location for Lord of the Rings (Lothlorien) and just last year Brad Pitt was photographed on set for his film Heart of the Beast.

Zelda was first announced to hit cinemas in March 2027. However, IMDb has its release date as May 7 next year.
