The Chase fans were left scratching their heads after one team stormed to victory moments after a major loss. During Tuesday’s visit (September 16) to the ITV studio, host Bradley Walsh welcomed four new hopefuls onto the teatime show. He introduced Calum, Ann, Ali, and Rio to the viewers at home before they put their general knowledge to the test.
This week, the quartet went up against Paul ‘The Sinnerman’ Sinha, who certainly brought his A-game – but the team certainly gave it a fighting chance. First up to the podium was actor Calum, who earned a respectable £5,000 in the cash-builder round. The thespian went on to prove he is both brains and brawn when he secured his place in the final round in the head-to-head round.
Next up to the table was Ann, who added a further £3,000 to the jackpot when she soared into the final round after a nail-biting one-on-one battle against the pro-quizzer. Things took an unexpected turn when hotel owner Ali took on the Chaser after earning £5,000 in the cash-builder round.
Despite giving it his best shot in the head-to-head round, Ali fell on his sword in the nail-biting round against The Sinnerman. But Rio made sure not to follow in her teammate’s footsteps when she scored an impressive £7,000 in the cash-builder round, swiftly securing her place in the final chase. But it was what she did next that raised eyebrows from viewers at home.
As she returned to the team, she pulled her co-star Calum in for a kiss and a hug, which appeared to surprise the budding actor himself. The proud player went on to do the same to Ann before sitting comfortably in her seat.
It didn’t take long before surprised viewers flocked to X – formerly known as Twitter – to share their surprise at her affection online. One user penned: “I wouldn’t want a stranger kissing me like that!” as another agreed: “Mwaah, Mwaah – bet he was surprised!” A third chimed in with: “I don’t even think Calum was expecting that response [cry-laughing emoji].”
With a total of £15,000 in the jackpot, the team made an impressive comeback in the final chase after correctly answering 19 questions in two minutes. After five successful pushbacks, the trio bet the odds and managed to keep their winnings, walking away with staggering £5,000 each.
Viewers returned to social media to share their praise for the team online, with one user celebrating them, writing: “Well done team!” as another agreed: “Great team, well done” while a third chimed in with: “Brilliant final chase that [applause emoji].”
The Chase airs on weekdays from 5pm on ITV1 or catch up on ITVX.
