Springer Nature has announced the launch of Nature Progress, a new Nature-branded journal series within the Nature Portfolio, expanding open access (OA) publishing opportunities for researchers. The publisher says the initiative responds to strong author demand, with 84% of surveyed authors welcoming more opportunities to publish in Nature-branded titles.
All journals in the Nature Progress series will be fully open access. Authors will be supported by in-house editors working in collaboration with external editorial board members drawn from the research community, a model that Springer Nature says is designed to uphold rigorous editorial standards while reflecting the diversity of global research.
Deborah Sweet, Executive Vice President for the Nature Portfolio, said: “Nature Portfolio is a trusted cornerstone for the global research community, championing scientific progress and supporting researchers worldwide. We have always evolved in line with community needs – whether enabling greater collaboration and visibility around the research process via transparent peer review, delivering sustainable OA options for highly selective titles or expanding access through OA funding initiatives. The Nature Progress series represents the next step in this ongoing commitment to serving our community.
“With this new Nature-branded series, our aim is to broaden opportunities for researchers by combining the benefits of OA publication with the high engagement that publishing in a Nature-branded title can bring. Across Springer Nature, we remain committed to working with our community to ensure that regardless of discipline or location, we can offer researchers a trusted home for their work.”
The Nature Progress series will launch with two journals in the biomedical space, aimed at supporting the rapid dissemination of rigorously evaluated research advances. These new titles will complement Springer Nature’s existing portfolio of around 700 fully open access journals and build on the more than 240,000 OA articles published by the publisher each year. As fully OA journals, they will be supported by Springer Nature’s APC waiver policy.
Nature Progress Oncology and Nature Progress Brain Health will open for submissions on 19 March 2026.
