Firefighters were first called to the fire at 2.14am. They arrived to find the upper floor of a two-storey building “well ablaze”, Fire and Emergency northern shift manager Lauren Sika said.
Seven fire crews as well as two support vehicles attended the scene, with two crews still on standby this morning, she said.
Nobody was reported injured in the fire and no other buildings appeared to have been damaged.
It was the second major blaze in a commercial building in Onehunga in the past month, after fire ripped through buildings on Onehunga Mall on January 25.
The cause of that fire will never be determined as the damaged building has been demolished due to safety concerns.
