A man has been arrested after he allegedly drove at high speeds and on the wrong side of the road with his partner and three children in the car before it was spiked twice in Auckland overnight.

Police attempted to stop a vehicle seen speeding on Pilkington Rd in Panmure at around 12.20am.

Senior Sergeant Tony Ngau Chun said the vehicle failed to stop and had been observed running a red light before continuing on.

“Units have managed to spike the vehicle in Ōtāhuhu and again in Manukau, where the vehicle has continued at low speed on the wrong side of the road.”

Ngau Chun said the driver was blocked by police and quickly arrested.

“Four family members were inside the vehicle at the time, and the driver’s behaviour was extremely concerning,” he said.

“We work hard to stop and prevent dangerous driving because we know this can, and does, result in serious crashes with sometimes dire consequences.”

A 40-year-old man will appear in Auckland District Court on February 19 charged with failing to stop and ill-treatment/neglect of a child under 18.
