Talented galloper Angel Capital will have to win from a wide draw if he’s to take out his maiden Group 1 in Saturday’s Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.
A capacity field of 16 plus one emergency accepted for the $1m contest on Wednesday morning with Angel Capital being handed barrier 13.
Of the 17 that accepted, six are Group 1 winners with Another Wil, Here To Shock, Pinstriped, Feroce and Port Lockroy in the race.
Meanwhile, a field of 12 will do battle a race earlier in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m).
Race favourite Sir Delius had his chances dented after drawing gate 11, one outside of Zardozi in 10.

Last year’s winner Buckaroo will step from barrier eight while returning Melbourne Cup winner Knight’s Choice has gate six.
