The practice commonly referred to as “Tidur 6 saat” or 6-second sleep therapy has recently gained widespread attention, particularly through social media platforms.

This method, which involves deliberate neck compression to induce a brief loss of consciousness, is being promoted as a form of therapy.

However, it is crucial to address the significant concerns it raises from medical, ethical, and public health perspectives.

Nature Of The Practice

Tidur 6 saat is not a legitimate medical treatment, nor is it recognised as a traditional therapy.

The technique relies on compressing the neck, which leads to transient loss of consciousness.

This approach is inherently unsafe and poses serious risks to individuals who attempt or undergo the procedure.

Risks And Potential Complications

This practice carries clear and foreseeable dangers. Potential complications include stroke, injury to the carotid artery, cardiac arrhythmia, hypoxic brain injury, sudden collapse, and even death.

The rapid spread of this method through social media has elevated it from an isolated issue to an emerging public health risk that requires immediate intervention.

Do not try it, do not demonstrate it, and do not share it as a trend.

Seek emergency care immediately if any of these occur after neck compression: limb weakness, facial drooping, slurred speech, severe headache, confusion, chest pain, or fainting.

Ethical And Medical Concerns

From both medical and ethical standpoints, the promotion and performance of Tidur 6 saat violate fundamental principles of care. In particular, it contravenes the principle of non-maleficence (to do no harm), undermines valid informed consent, and erodes public trust in health-related practices.

Misrepresenting induced cerebral hypoperfusion or syncope as a form of “sleep therapy” is misleading and dangerous.

Recommended Actions

Given the risks and ethical issues associated with this practice, I urge the Ministry of Health (MOH) and relevant enforcement agencies to take the following steps:

Initiate immediate regulatory investigation and enforcement against practitioners and promoters of this method.

Issue a public warning to inform and protect the public from the dangers of this practice.

Coordinate with social media platforms to report and remove harmful promotional content related to 6-second sleep therapy.

Establish surveillance and reporting pathways to track and address adverse events linked to this practice.

Until formal action is taken by the relevant authorities, the public is strongly advised to avoid engaging in or supporting Tidur 6 Saat in any form.
