Australian specialist music and professional audio retailer Turramurra Music has been named NAMM Best Community Retail Store and recognised as one of only three global finalists for the prestigious NAMM Retailer of the Year award, coinciding with the store’s 50th anniversary year.

Founded in 1976, Turramurra Music has grown from a local Upper North Shore music store into a nationally renowned supplier of musical instruments, professional audio systems and technical services, supporting musicians, venues, schools, churches, broadcasters and more across Australia.

The international awards are presented by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) and recognise excellence across retail leadership, customer experience, education, technical capability and long-term contribution to the music and audio industries. Being shortlisted as a top three global finalist places Turramurra Music among a small group of elite music retailers worldwide.

“It’s a huge honour to see Turramurra Music recognised by NAMM in our 50th year,” said Rob Stevens, Founder of Turramurra Music. “This honour belongs to the many dedicated staff – past and present – who have earned the trust of our customers and the community we’ve served since 1976.”

The Best Community Retail Store award highlights the company’s deep engagement with the music and pro audio community through hosting regular in-store events, workshops and clinics with artists and industry experts, supporting a range of community programmes and charities, and fostering relationships with customers from beginners to professionals. It also acknowledged Turramurra’s customer-first philosophy, staff expertise, and provision of expert in-house repairs and after-sales service for which the store has become renowned.

Over five decades, the company has maintained a deliberate focus on continuity — supporting customers from their first instrument through to professional performance and production — while adapting to major changes in retail, technology and the broader music industry.

“To receive this level of global recognition in our 50th year is incredibly meaningful,” said Mat Stevens, General Manager of Turramurra Music. “Being recognised by NAMM at this level reinforces that investing in skilled staff, education and relationships is important, and that our service-led approach remains relevant — even in a rapidly changing industry.”

The dual NAMM honours underscore Turramurra Music’s position as one of Australia’s most established and respected specialist music and professional audio retailers, with a model that balances commercial excellence, technical credibility and genuine community impact.
