EXCLUSIVE: Amazon MGM Studios has secured Country Roads, an original concept from Oscar-nominated writer Allison Schroeder produced by Seven Bucks Productions. We understand it was a seven-figure deal.
Country Roads is described as a romantic dramedy set in the world of country music.
Schroeder is an Oscar-, WGA- and BAFTA-nominated writer for Best Adapted Screenplay for the film Hidden Figures, which grossed more than $237 million at the global box office in 2016. Her other writing credits include the $1.45 billion-grossing Frozen 2, the near $1B-grossing worldwide A Minecraft Movie, as well as Disney’s live-action Christopher Robin and the Gal Gadot Netflix action movie Heart of Stone.
She is repped by Jake Weiner at Good Fear Content, WME, and Ginsberg Daniels Kallis.
Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, and Hiram Garcia are producing Country Roads for Seven Bucks Productions alongside Schroeder. Kimberly Bialek will oversee for Seven Bucks Productions.
Seven Bucks’ upcoming projects include Disney’s live-action Moana and the next installment in the Jumanji franchise for Sony, both premiering this year.
Past films have included A24’s The Smashing Machine, written and directed by Benny Safdie and starring Johnson and Emily Blunt; the Jumanji franchise; Red Notice, Netflix’s most-watched original live-action movie of all time; and theatrical tentpoles including Jungle Cruise, Hobbs & Shaw and Red One, the latter then most-viewed movie on Prime Video. In television, Seven Bucks has produced HBO’s five-time Emmy-nominated Ballers, NBC’s Young Rock and The Titan Games, and Paramount Network’s Rock the Troops. The company also champions documentary features such as Stuntman, and docuseries including Disney+’s Behind the Attraction and Finding Justice.
