In an interview with Oprah Winfrey a short time after the royal wedding, Sarah said: “I was not invited, and I chose to go and be in Thailand in a place called Camelia and…the jungle embraced me.”
It also left her feeling “worthless” and pondering her past mistakes.
She added: “I felt that I ostracised myself by my behaviour, by the past, by living with all the regrets of my mistakes, that I sort of wore a hair shirt and beat myself up most of the day thinking and regretting why did I make such a mistake? Why have I made so many mistakes?”
She said: “I really love the feeling that sort of Diana and I both weren’t there,” she said. “But I’m here to say how proud she would have been and Kate looked utterly beautiful.”
Fergie’s close ties with the Royal Family have unravelled in recent months as a result of her connection to Jeffrey Epstein.
Stripped of her Duchess title, Sarah has also been told to leave Royal Lodge, the home she has shared with her disgraced ex-husband Andrew since 2008.
The former couple were previously known to be on exceptionally good terms and lived together at Royal Lodge in Windsor, even three decades after their split. Sarah even once described them as the “happiest divorced couple in the world” and repeatedly came to Andrew’s defence in public.
Recent revelations, which saw Sarah ask Epstein to “just marry me” even after he’d been convicted, have clearly taken their toll.

A source told HELLO! magazine last month that Sarah will not be joining ex-husband Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor when he moves to Norfolk.
They said: “She has stood by him all these years but is now ready to spread her wings.”
They added: “She won’t be moving in with him to the new house on the Sandringham Estate. She won’t be moving into Beatrice’s Cotswolds home though. Eugenie’s home in Portugal is a contender while she finds somewhere.”
