Besides the tension surrounding whether Benedict (Luke Thompson) and Sophie (Yerin Ha) will end up together in the latter part of Bridgerton Season 4,, there’s also a significant death that the characters must face. The latest trailer for Bridgerton Season 4 Part 2 revealed several characters, including Violet Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmell), dressed in black, a color traditionally associated with mourning. Fans of Julia Quinn’s novels are already aware that multiple deaths are on the horizon. But which character will depart this season, and what repercussions will it have for the forthcoming seasons 5 and 6, which are expected to center on the Bridgerton sisters, Eloise (Claudia Jessie) and Francesca (Hannah Dodd)? Below, we outline some potential scenarios. Warning: Spoilers Ahead!
Who will perish in Bridgerton Season 4 Part 2?
Queen Charlotte in mourning wear
Although not entirely historically accurate, Bridgerton features Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel) and her spouse, King George III (James Fleet), as prominent figures. A prequel series, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, premiered in 2023, showcasing India Amarteifio and Corey Mylchreest as the younger iterations of these characters. King George III, often referred to as Mad King George, passed away on January 29, 1820, which aligns closely with the timeline of the current season. He struggled with mental health issues and was largely absent from public life during the final decade of his existence. In the first half of Season 4, the Queen expresses her reluctance to let Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh) leave the country, fearing solitude if the King were to die.
John Stirling with wife FrancescaJohn Stirling, the Earl of Kilmartin, portrayed by Victor Alli, weds the third Bridgerton daughter, Francesca, in Season 3. They live in Scotland but have returned to the Earl’s residence in London for the current social season. John’s cousin, Michaela Stirling (Masali Baduza), also visits them from time to time. Readers of the book series are already aware that John meets an untimely end, leaving Francesca a widow. Nevertheless, Francesca eventually finds love again with Michaela. With John’s death occurring this season, the series may be paving the way for Francesca’s narrative in Season 6. Michaela and Francesca would have ample time to mourn John and come to terms with their genuine feelings for each other.
Marina Thompson
Marina Thompson, portrayed by Ruby Barker, was introduced in Season 1 as a distant cousin of the Featheringtons. However, tension arose when she became engaged to Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton), despite being pregnant with another man’s child. By the end of the season, Marina becomes Lady Crane after Sir Philip Crane (Chris Fulton) assumes responsibilities following his brother’s demise.
The couple’s marriage is more of a formality, and after Marina’s passing, Philip contemplates remarriage. He and Eloise have been exchanging letters for quite some time, leading them to conclude that they are well-suited for an arranged marriage. If the show is indeed positioning Eloise to be the lead of Season 5, this trajectory seems logical, as Eloise flees her home to meet Philip and Marina’s twins, Oliver and Amanda. For now, we can only speculate, as all questions will be answered when the show returns with the remaining four episodes on February 26, 2026.
