A tiger injured after being caught in a deer trap set by poachers in the Sundarbans is showing signs of recovery.

The animal has been undergoing treatment at the Khulna Rescue Centre for the past 42 days. Forest officials said the tiger is responding well to treatment but will require further care before it can be released back into the wild. It is currently being administered medicines and injections.

The conservator of forests for the Khulna region said the tiger is being treated according to veterinary advice and its condition has significantly improved.

“It is now quite healthy and roaring constantly,” he said. “The tiger will be released into the Sundarbans only after full recovery. Releasing it prematurely could create complications. The wound on its leg is drying, and its movement is gradually returning to normal.”

Forest department officials learned on January 3 that a tiger had been trapped in a deer snare near Sharkir Canal in Joymoni under the Chandpai Range. Authorities in Dhaka were immediately informed, and an expert team arrived at the scene the following afternoon.

The team tranquilized the tiger and freed it from the trap before transporting it to the Khulna Rescue Centre that night for treatment.

On January 6, another expert team from Dhaka visited Khulna to assess the tiger’s condition and oversee its medical management.
