He was also told that his solicitor Ben Archbold would call him afterwards.
“Yep,” Akram replied.
He has been charged with 59 offences including terrorism, 15 counts of murder and 40 counts of attempted murder over his alleged role in the mass shooting at the Chanukah By The Sea event in Sydney’s east on December 14.
He will next appear in court in March.
Outside court, Archbold told reporters Akram was in onerous conditions in Goulburn prison.
Akram is yet to enter a plea and Archbold said he would know more when he received the brief of evidence from the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions.
Asked if Akram had said anything about the attack, Archbold said: “I haven’t spoken to him about the attack in that regard.
“All that we’re doing at the moment is starting the process.”
Akram’s father Sajid, 50, was shot dead by police and Akram was shot in the abdomen during the attack that police allege was inspired by IS.
The Bonnyrigg man also faces charges of discharging a firearm intending to cause grievous bodily harm, cause public display of a prohibited terrorist symbol and place an explosive near a building with intent to cause harm.
Court documents state that Akram and his father allegedly had three pipe bombs and a tennis ball bomb in their possession.
The improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were made from sealed aluminium piping containing explosive black powder and steel ball bearings, police said in court documents.
The bombs did not detonate and police allege they were thrown towards a group of people at Archer Park before the shooting began.
Akram and his father stayed at an Airbnb at Campsie where they loaded weapons into a silver Hyundai Elantra before driving to Bondi, court documents allege.
They also allege the pair parked on Campbell Parade, where they removed the Isis flags from the car and placed them on the inside of the front and rear windscreens.
Two police officers were injured in the gunfight, including a probationary constable who has lost sight in one eye.
The Akrams were also captured on CCTV visiting the footbridge just two days earlier for “reconnaissance and planning”, the court documents allege.
CCTV footage captures two males, alleged to be Naveed Akram and Sajid Akram, arriving at the carpark near Archer Park, Bondi Beach, about 9.30pm on December 12.
Police further allege that in a video recorded in late October 2025, the Akrams took part in firearms training at a NSW farm.
It’s alleged they filmed themselves firing shotguns and moving in a “tactical manner”.
In another video, police allege the two men filmed themselves in front of an image of an Isis flag, making several statements regarding their motivation for the Bondi attack.
At the Campsie Airbnb, police allege they found a firearm scope, ammunition, a suspected IED, Sajid’s driver’s licence and hunting association membership card, 3D-printed parts for a shotgun speed loader, a rifle, a shotgun, numerous firearm parts, bomb-making equipment, and two copies of the Koran.
