Users of YouTube are reportedly facing a fresh issue on the platform, with comments and video descriptions failing to load, as its ongoing crackdown on advertisement blockers continues. According to a report by 9to5Google, several users have stated that videos they are watching appear to have comments disabled entirely, while descriptions are also missing.

In recent months, YouTube has intensified its efforts to curb the use of ad-blocking tools, introducing new restrictions that are often met with swift workarounds from users, resulting in a continued back-and-forth that has at times disrupted platform features.

As previously reported, Google has restricted background playback on mobile browsers to YouTube Premium subscribers, affecting users who relied on third-party browsers such as Brave to play videos with their screens turned off.

According to 9to5Google, multiple users on Reddit and other online forums have informed that comment sections are not appearing on the videos they view. While creators typically have the option to disable comments on individual uploads, users have stated that the issue is occurring across nearly all videos they open, indicating that it may not be an isolated action by creators but a wider problem affecting accounts or viewing experiences.

The precise cause remains unclear, though the report indicated that many affected users have ad blockers enabled. Two possible explanations were outlined: YouTube may be deliberately limiting access to features such as comments and descriptions for users employing ad-blocking tools, or recent updates to certain ad blockers may be interfering with how the platform loads its interface, preventing these sections from displaying.

The report noted that a similar disruption occurred last year when changes to a widely used ad blocker affected video view counts, an episode some creators described as a ‘view-pocolypse’.
