It’s only been two months since legendary filmmaker Rob Reiner and his beloved wife, Michele Reiner, were brutally murdered in their home, allegedly by their son, Nick. While many are still reeling, it seems their former pals, Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise, are taking it especially hard.
“When Tom and Nicole were a happily married couple, they went on double dates with Rob and Michelle Reiner and as a foursome; they were remarkably in sync,” an insider said to Heat World. “Tom met Nicole roughly around the same time Rob and Michelle became a couple, and the early parts of both of those relationships followed a similar arc, including the timing of them all having kids.”

It seems Rob and Cruise first met while filming A Few Good Men in 1992, but their bond grew stronger when they both found love in the 90s. Not much is publicly known, but many inferred they were close pals because Kidman and Cruise were pictured at the American Cinematheque Honoring Rob Reiner at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills back in 1994.
Along with that, the Reiners’ former nanny once wrote on Instagram: “I met Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise a number of times while I worked for the Reiners.
The insider added to Heat World, “Nicole and Tom really cheered on the Reiners as a couple and Tom also just worshipped Rob as a person and as a filmmaker. None of that faded with time and Tom reached out to Nicole right after the news about Rob and Michelle broke. Their murders have totally rattled them both.”
So after their shocking murders, insiders also claim Kidman and Cruise may reunite as pals.
“Kidman really needs some positivity right now, so creating new memories with Tom and their kids will no doubt do her a world of good,” they added. “It can’t hurt Tom either. Aside from his work he doesn’t have a whole lot going on in his personal life. By all accounts he’s a pretty lonely guy, so this reconnection with Nicole is huge for him too.”

For those who don’t know, Kidman and Cruise met on the set of the hit film Days of Thunder and fell in love immediately. In fact, they tied the knot a year later, on Christmas Eve 1990, in Telluride, Colorado.
They starred in two more films together, Far and Away and Eyes Wide Shut. They even adopted two children together, named Isabella Jane in 1992 and a son named Connor in 1995.

However, Cruise ended up filing for divorce from Kidman in 2001. Before Kidman became the superstar she is today, she told Marie Claire per Goalcast that she felt like a trophy at the beginning of their marriage. “I thought, I don’t deserve to be here. We would go to the Oscars, and I would think, I’m here to support [Tom]. I felt it was my job to put on a beautiful dress and to be seen and not heard.”
