We’ve seen the classic Lara Croft look, and now we’re seeing something a bit more modern, striking, and tactical, as new set photos from Prime Video’s Tomb Raider series show Sophie Turner deep in the action, battling the rain during a dramatic knife fight sequence filmed in Surrey.
The nighttime shoot transformed a quiet wooded area into a muddy battleground, complete with floodlights, slick terrain, and full-throttle chaos. Turner was spotted sprinting between trees, knife in hand, looking bruised and battle-worn before making a swift escape on the back of a motorbike driven by co-star Martin Bobb-Semple. Bobb-Semple plays Zip, Lara’s trusted tech support and close ally — a fan-favorite character from the games.
Has Sophie Turner Been Working Out To Play Lara Croft?
Turner has been preparing for this role for nearly a year — and she’s been candid about how intense that process has been. Speaking to ScreenRant, she said:
“I can’t say much, but my preparation began in February [2025]. I’ve been training for a long time now, coming up on a year, and we’re going to start shooting in January. I’m really excited, but I feel prepped, and I feel really lucky to have such a great relationship with Amazon, and I’m excited for the world to see what we do with Lara and Tomb Raider. I think it’s going to be something special.”
Her training schedule has been no joke. Appearing on The Julia Cunningham Show, Turner revealed:
“We’ve been doing eight hours a day, five days a week since February last year, of training. Yeah, so it’s been a lot.
I’ve learned I have a perpetual back problem, but I also realised that it’s much easier to kind of build muscle if you’ve ever worked out before in your life, which I never had, so it has taken me months and months and months to get into good shape.”
While Turner is best known for playing Sansa Stark on Game of Thrones, she admitted that experience didn’t exactly prepare her for hand-to-hand combat:
“No, I was the cool queen who, like, didn’t have to do that. I also just kind of was the one that got beat up, not the one doing the beating. So, it’s quite nice to learn how to throw a punch and not just take it.”
Tomb Raider will premiere on Prime Video in 2027.
