The Vivo V70 and V70 Elite are two camera-centric smartphones available at different price points. The obvious difference between them lies in their chipsets. The regular Vivo V70 uses a mid-range chipset, while the V70 Elite features a high-end (formerly flagship-level) chip.

The question is: Does the Vivo V70 Elite offer enough with its flashier processor to justify its higher price over the regular V70? Let’s compare the two phones in detail and find out which one you should buy.

Design, build quality, and display

When it comes to design and build quality, both the Vivo V70 and V70 Elite are the same. They have the same metal frame and glass/plastic back (depending on the color), which is quite premium. The only difference is that the Vivo V70 comes in more colors than the V70 Elite.

Both the Vivo V70 and V70 Elite also feature the same amazing AMOLED panel that can reach up to 5000 nits of brightness. Therefore, they will have no issues when used outdoors under direct sunlight. Overall, they both have the same great design, build quality, and display.

Performance and gaming

The Vivo V70 features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, which is a mid-range chip. In comparison, the V70 Elite is equipped with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, which is a high-end and previously flagship-level chip. Therefore, the latter is obviously the more powerful phone.

In terms of raw performance, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 scores around 2,019 and 5,570 points in Geekbench 6’s single and multi-core benchmarks, respectively, which are about 49% and 34% higher than the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4’s 1,353 and 4,166 points in the same benchmarks (respectively).

Similarly, in Geekbench 6’s GPU Compute score, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 scores 11,594, which is 46% higher than the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4’s score of 7,958. Therefore, gamers should go for the Vivo V70 Elite.

Camera performance

The Vivo V70 and V70 Elite feature the same 50+50+8 MP triple-rear-camera system. However, since the two phones have different chipsets, the ISPs (image signal processors) inside them are also different. Therefore, even though they have the same setup, the Vivo V70 Elite’s camera can achieve a bit more detail, better dynamic range, and lower noise levels, even in shadows.

Both their main and telephoto cameras are excellent. However, images from their ultrawide cameras are just average. The ultrawide shots pale in detail levels and noise compared to the other cameras. Moreover, the Vivo V70 Elite can record 4K videos at 60 fps with HDR, but the regular V70 cannot shoot in HDR.

Battery, charging, and pricing

The Vivo V70 and V70 Elite have the same 6,500 mAh battery, so they should both be able to deliver a maximum of around two to three days of battery life with light to medium usage. However, since the regular Vivo V70 uses a less demanding mid-range chipset, it will last a few hours longer.

As for pricing, the Vivo V70 starts at ₹45,999, while the V70 Elite begins at ₹51,999.

Which phone should you buy?

The Vivo V70 and V70 Elite are quite similar. The former’s advantages are more color options and a slightly lower price tag, while the latter can deliver smoother day-to-day usage and much better gaming performance. The V70 Elite’s camera performance is also slightly better due to the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3’s superior ISP.

Moreover, its price is not that much higher than the regular Vivo V70. Therefore, I would recommend the Vivo V70 Elite instead. If there were a greater difference in their prices, it would be a different situation, but the amount you can save by going with the regular Vivo V70 would not be worth the compromise in functionality.
