There are almost 20,000 in the Shannonside region enrolled in the Government’s retirement savings system.
Figures were revealed earlier this week following a parliamentary question from Dublin South Central TD Catherine Ardagh to Minister for Social Protection, Dara Calleary.
The Programme for Government contains a commitment to introduce the Automatic Enrolment Retirement Savings System.
The aim of introducing Auto Enrolment is to address the pension coverage gap that exists in Ireland and to provide workers with access to a quality assured retirement savings scheme.
As of January 27th there were a total of 19,871 signed up locally.
Roscommon had the highest in the region at 8720, that was followed by Longford with 7012 and 4139 in Leitrim.
Overall, the total participant count nationally was 761,789.
