The Voice is returning for its 29th season, and everything is about to change. Since its inception, the show’s format has remained largely the same, with a revolving door of coaches filling the four famous spinning chairs. However, for the upcoming 29th installment set to debut tonight, Monday, February 23, four will become three, as a chair is sacrificed for a special “Battle of Champions” edition of the series. At least Carson Daly’s continued hosting presence will add some consistency to this huge Voice shake-up.

But who will be taking the coaching roles for Season 29? As it is the “Battle of Champions” season, all three will be former winners of the show. Firstly, Kelly Clarkson is returning for her milestone tenth season, having not coached since Season 23. She is joined by Adam Levine, who returns following a one-season hiatus for his impressive 18th outing, and another man returning following a one-season hiatus: John Legend.

Ahead of the premiere episode of Season 29, Collider has teamed with The Voice to bring you a sneak peek at the new rules and a pair of first-look images as part of our Collider’s Exclusive Spring Preview event. In the clip, Legend, Clarkson, and Levine detail some of the format changes for the special season, including an exciting new “Triple Turn Competition,” which will uniquely value the winning of an artist from a three-chair turn. “Whoever gets a three-chair turn wins a super steal,” Levine notes, with this special reward allowing its owner the chance to overrule any steal or save in the Battle Round. Check out more in our sneak peek below.

Which of the Three Coaches Has the Most Wins?

The return of Clarkson, Legend, and Levine will see an entire overhaul of coaches, following last season’s quartet of Niall Horan, Reba McEntire, Snoop Dogg, and back-to-back champion Michael Bublé. As it is the “Battle of Champions,” you might be wondering which of these past winners has the best record in the series? Of these three, Clarkson has the most wins with four (Season 14, Brynn Cartelli; Season 15, Chevel Shepherd; Season 17, Jake Hoot; Season 21, Girl Named Tom). She is closely followed by Levine’s three wins (Season 1, Javier Colon; Season 5, Tessanne Chin; Season 9, Jordan Smith), and Legend is last with just the single win alongside Maelyn Jarmon in Season 16.

The Voice Season 29 premieres on February 23, at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on NBC and is available to stream the following day on Peacock. Check out our sneak peek below and the new images above. Make sure to stay tuned for more from Collider’s exclusive Spring Preview Event.
