A child has been injured after being hit by a car in the Christchurch suburb of Woolston this morning.

Police said emergency services were called to the crash “involving a car and a pedestrian” on Ferry Rd, Woolston, shortly before 9am.

A driveway and a Toyota Prius parked near the road were pictured taped off by officers.

Police could not confirm the child’s age.

St John said it sent an ambulance and a rapid response vehicle.

“One patient was assessed at the scene and has been transported to Christchurch Hospital in a serious condition,” a St John spokesperson said.

1News footage showed police cars at the scene, and an officer rolling up the tape cordon shortly before midday.
