Calling all Yellowstone fans! CBS has released an explosive first-look clip at the upcoming Kayce Dutton spin-off, Marshals: A Yellowstone Story, and it seems Kayce (Luke Grimes) is on the hunt for vengeance against the leader of a new order, established by none other than Michael Cudlitz of The Walking Dead fame.
The new series, which lands on CBS on 1 March and Paramount+ on 2 March, follows the son of Kevin Costner’s John Dutton as he leaves his roots behind and embarks on a new journey as a US marshal.
Keep reading to find out everything you need to know about the new clip, which teases some familiar faces alongside new additions…
What happens in the new trailer?
In the new clip, we see Kayce’s son Tate (Brecken Merrill) ask his father about his new job joining the marshals. While Kayce shrugs it off, saying he’ll probably just be dealing with “new guy nonsense”, the camera cuts to him holding people at gunpoint in multiple high-stakes situations.
“Violence has a way of finding the Duttons,” we hear a voice say later. As Kayce is described as the “only person who can bridge the gap between the rez and ranchers”, Gil Birmingham’s Thomas Rainwater warns: “Don’t confuse vengeance with closure, Kayce. Only one brings peace.”
Kayce responds: “At least vengeance is something I believe in.” He later adds: “The Yellowstone might be gone, but there’s still some landmines left behind.”
A new character joins the castÂ
Later in the clip, we’re introduced to Michael’s character Randall Clegg, the leader of a ranch in Montana. “Family name doesn’t carry water anymore, so you gotta hide behind a federal badge? Oh, how the mighty have fallen,” he taunts Kayce.
Kayce fires back: “Still got a long way to go before I make it down to you.”
Who else stars in Marshals: A Yellowstone Story?
Alongside Michael, country singer-songwriter Riley Green is also guest starring, alongside Arielle Kebbel, Ash Santos and Tatanka Means. They join Yellowstone veterans Gil Birmingham and Mo Brings Plenty.
Speaking on CBS Mornings, Arielle, who plays fellow marshal Belle Skinner, revealed she repeatedly contacted her team in a bid to land a role on the show.
“They got an email or a phone call from me at least once a week, like, ‘What’s happening? What’s happening? When can I meet? Is there a role?'”
She explained that she had even enquired about joining the cast before the role of Belle existed.
“I saw Luke was doing a spin-off. I worked with Luke on Fifty Shades Freed, and he’s so wonderful – he’s a class act. I didn’t know much about the spin-off, but I knew he was doing one. I asked, and then a week later I was in Austin at the ATX Festival and I got the call for Belle,” she said.
