Viewers were glued to Australian Idol last night as the Top 30 edge closer to becoming the Top 21.

The Top 30 were split into threes for a group challenge that saw tensions flare as the competition stakes rise.

The hopefuls were tasked with tackling music hits such as Can’t Help Falling in Love and We Found Love, with the most notable standout performances coming from Charlie Moon, Tre Samuels and Simela Petridis securing their spots in the next round.

But not everyone had such an easy night. Sophie Poldevin, Mat Rigby and Riley Ziskey were among those who crumbled under the pressure with more scrutinised renditions, leaving them under pressure from the judges and their idol futures in limbo.

Expectations will only rise as the Top 30 edge closer to a Top 21 cut in the coming episodes.

Idol raked in a Total TV National Reach of 1,652,000 and a Total TV National Audience of 750,000 captivated by the highs and the questionable song choices.

Home and Away climbed the ranks to land at number five, once again proving that some soaps are truly immortal. Last night’s episode brought in a National Reach of 1,720,000 and an Average Audience of 975,000.

Channel 10’s Australian Survivor, which notably has a new host for this season being former Survivor winner David Genat, came in at number fifteen with a National Reach of 788,000 and an Average Audience of 412,000 proving the competition on the couch is far more cut-throat than that in the jungle.

MAFs once again scored the top spot of the night, as expected, pulling in a National Reach of 3,023,000 and an Average Audience.
