Police have confirmed the body found at Mahanga Beach at Mahia was a missing Gisborne teen.

Police investigating the disappearance of a Gisborne teenager have confirmed his body was found at Mahanga Beach at Mahia.

The 17-year-old went missing from the Midway Beach area on February 1.

On Saturday, February 14, police were called to Mahanga after a member of the public reported a body washed
up on the beach.

“The formal identification process has been completed,” police said.

“We can confirm this was, sadly, the body of the teenager reported missing on February 1. This death is not being treated as suspicious and has been referred to the Coroner.
