“We are happy to confirm that we are working with local developers TW Property to bring a new state-of-the-art Woolworths supermarket to the Tamatea-Taradale area,” he said.

“We’re looking forward to bringing more supermarket competition to this growing area and providing additional shopping choices for a community that currently doesn’t have a nearby Woolworths store.
“The project is in its early stages, so we can’t yet say when a store might open, but we look forward to sharing further plans once our designs are developed.
“TW Property are also developing our upcoming Flaxmere store, and together we are consulting with Mana Ahuriri Trust on our preliminary designs.
“We’re excited about the chance to bring new shopping experiences and convenience to the people of the Tamatea-Taradale area.
“We have no plans to close either of our [Napier] central city Woolworths stores.”
The supermarket will be built in a commercial area of the precinct, near the intersection of Westminster Ave and Wharerangi Rd.
Other shops will also be built in that commercial area.

Mana Ahuriri Trust is the main driver behind the vision for the Te Roropipi precinct, and has been working alongside developer TW Property (part of TW Group), retirement company Metlifecare, and iwi-owned national property fund Hāpai.
The land at 42 Wharerangi Rd is redress property under the Ahuriri Hapū Deed of Settlement.
Metlifecare purchased 6ha of that land off Mana Ahuriri Hāpai Limited Partnership last year within the precinct.
In a major milestone, Metlifecare was granted resource consent this week to build its $140 million new retirement village.
The retirement village will feature 150 homes/villas as well as a care home with 20 care suites.
Construction is expected to begin for the retirement village in September, with the first villas anticipated to be completed in mid-2027.
“This is a proud moment for us,” Metlifecare CEO Earl Gasparich said.

He said it was Metlifecare’s first village for Hawke’s Bay.
“We’re really pleased to be introducing Metlifecare to Hawke’s Bay and giving retirees another great option for an active, well-supported lifestyle,” he said.
“Opening a village in Hawke’s Bay has been on our radar for some time. It’s a significant growth region of the country.”
Mana Ahuriri Trust general manager Parris Greening said the vision for the remainder of the Te Roropipi precinct was “to build houses for our whānau”.
“Those who need affordable rentals, those that need community housing, and those who are in a position to buy their own home.”
He said that would include about 140 homes in total, 28 of which would be kaumātua housing.
“It is going to be a thriving community”.
Resource consent applications have been lodged with Napier City Council for many of those homes.
As for the commercial area, Greening said the new supermarket would be the “cornerstone” but there would also be other shops and retail spaces with a focus on wellness.
“It is going to be a place where people can walk down to buy their [goods] or walk down to potentially work there, and [it will] service the wider communities of Tamatea and Greenmeadows.”
A recent Mana Ahuriri Trust newsletter, called Panui, stated a sale agreement with TW Group for the commercial superlot was due to settle in mid-2026.
The Te Roropipi precinct is not far from another major development in Napier, Mission Hills, where hundreds of homes and another new retirement home are also being developed.
