An Auckland woman has been arrested for allegedly attempting to steal a necklace worth nearly $75,000.

An Auckland woman has been arrested for allegedly attempting to steal a necklace worth almost $75,000 and smashing a cabinet worth tens of thousands of dollars.

Police were called to a shop on Galway St in Auckland’s CBD just before 5pm where a woman allegedly entered holding a metal pole
before taking a necklace from a display Senior Sergeant Dean Henderson said.

“When challenged by store employees when attempting to leave, the woman has threatened the employees,” Henderson said.

Henderson said police spoke to the woman when they arrived, but she then allegedly used the metal pole to smash a $20,000 cabinet.

The 26-year-old woman was then taken into custody without further incident, and the necklace has since been returned to the shop.
