Chris Hemsworth has divided Australians over sharing an expression he said is very common Down Under.

The Marvel actor, 42, shared the expression during an interview with British comedian Munya Chawawa.

In the clip shared online, the comedian described their exchange as an “average Aussie conversation”.

Chawawa said: “The difference between us, because you’re Aussie, you guys have quite odd sayings. If you don’t want to waste time, you say, ‘We’re not here to…'”

“Do you want me to say it?” Hemsworth replied before adding: “F**k spiders.”

“If we need to waste time?” Chawawa joked to which the actor replied: “We would f**k some spiders.”

“If we were going to quick, hold up, let’s grab a coffee and f**k some spiders,” Hemsworth said.

The British comedian jokingly captioned the clip: “99 per cent accurate Aussie convo.”

The saying, which is used by Australian celebrities like Margot Robbie, surprisingly sparked a debate amongst Aussies.

“No one in Australia says this. I’m convinced Margot Robbie made it up as a joke,” one person commented.

“Where in Australia has this ever been said? NEVER,” another said while a third agreed: “Who says that even??? I’m an Aussie and I don’t say that.”

However, others suggested an Australian could not claim to be a native if they had not heard of the saying.

“This is so real whoever is Aussie and hasn’t said this, you’re not Aussie lad,” one person said.

“As a West Australian, I have heard this saying plenty. Chris is not alone,” another commented while a third added: “If you haven’t heard this saying, you can’t convince me you’re actually Australian.”

Hemsworth and his wife Elsa Pataky, and their three children, India Rose, 13, and 11-year-old twin sons Sasha and Tristan, moved to Byron Bay in 2015 from Los Angeles, California.

The Hollywood actor recently revealed why he decided to move back to Australia.

“It was right around the time my boys were born, and it was just, we kind of were set up in LA and not enjoying it, you know?” Hemsworth told Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett on the latest episode of the SmartLess podcast.

“Like nothing was shooting there. We were filming kind of everywhere else. And then… you’d come home and paparazzi and all the sort of the trappings of living in that space.”
