ITV daytime host Lorraine Kelly has confessed that she “couldn’t resist” spoiling her daughter Rosie during her childhood, a habit her own mother, Anne, disapproved of.
In a recent interview with The Telegraph, Lorraine, Anne, and Rosie, who is now 31 and welcomed her first child, Billie, in 2024, shared their perspectives on parenthood.
Anne candidly revealed: “I had my opinions about how Lorraine was raising Rosie – giving her too many sweets or toys. She was terrible about giving toys. It wasn’t one Barbie, she’d give her 10.”
Despite her mother’s critique, Lorraine, 66, admitted that she hasn’t altered her approach now that she’s a grandmother.
The Scottish television personality, who shares Rosie with husband Steve Smith, chuckled as she confessed: “I just couldn’t resist. The best part of being a mum is giving them all the toys you want.”

“I’m even worse as a granny. I constantly give Billie space-themed toys because my dad got me interested in space and I’m indoctrinating her too.”
Rosie has recently penned a book titled Mother to Mother, which explores motherhood across generations and draws from her personal experiences.
The journalist, who shares Billie with her partner, Steve, mentioned that she frequently seeks parenting advice from her mother and grandmother, stating: “I needed advice from people I trusted.
“My mum and my granny gave me the best. You always go back to mums, they’re the experts.
“When I first gave birth, I was just trying to do it all on my own (and to some degree I still am) but Mum and Granny really taught me to look after myself too.”

Lorraine confessed that she carries some guilt about working when Rosie was young, but her daughter quickly reassured her that there was no need for concern.
Anne also offered comforting words, telling Lorraine: “And your dad and I were happy to help out with the school races and fetes and things whilst you were working.”
Sadly, Lorraine’s father John passed away in January, prompting a heartfelt tribute from the presenter. She wrote: “I am mourning the man who bought me a telescope when I was five years old, who watched the moon landings with me and taught me to always be curious and interested in everything.
“His health was deteriorating, but his passing has still been a shock. We will miss you dad.”
