Knights recruit Dylan Brown has opened up on his $13 million switch from the Parramatta Eels, revealing the hilarious reaction his parents had to the eyewatering contract.

Appearing on Face to Face with Matty Johns, Brown said his father laughed when he told him what the Knights had offered.

“He goes, ‘what, really?’ My mum was sort of the same she thought I was lying,” Brown said.

And his parents weren’t the only ones stunned.

“I had the same reaction as my dad. It was a bit of a shock,” he said.

The monster price tag shone the spotlight on Brown during his final season with the Eels as the playmaker came in for heavy criticism as Parramatta missed out on finals,

His play for the Eels suffered and later in the season, he was dropped from first grade.

Despite all of this, Brown remained the ultimate teammate throughout a tricky ordeal.

“I just want to congratulate you on last year. I spoke to (Eels coach) Jason Ryles and he said you were outstanding with the young blokes. You showed a lot of class,” Johns told Brown.

“It was a good challenge … It was hard but I learnt a lot,” Brown replied.

Brown will step out for his Knights debut this Sunday when Newcastle open the 2026 NRL season against the Cowboys.
