While pale greens like sage, mint, and pistachio are often referenced in the interior design world, celadon, a lesser-known (yet equally as uplifting and calming) jade green, has been slowly taking over as the green for 2026.
Falling somewhere between very pale gray and vibrant green, celadon green takes its name from the ancient Chinese pottery style, known for its smooth, jade-like surface. A shade set to dominate color trends in 2026, celadon is an uplifting yet subtle green hue that feels delicate, stylish, and oh-so revitalizing.

A unique alternative to all the usual colors used when decorating with green, celadon has a calming, deeply serene quality.
In the living room pictured above, interior designer Jan Showers embraced the lacquer trend, covering the walls in a shiny celadon finish. She says, ‘Green, especially a shade like this, creates a serene backdrop that allows furnishings, art, and architectural details to shine without competing. It feels collected, natural, and entirely at home in Palm Beach.’
She continues, ‘I’ve always loved green, particularly in homes that are close to the water. I truly consider green to be neutral because it’s a color in nature. We are surrounded by it outdoors, and there is something inherently calming about that. All greens go together – just as they are found in nature. Being outside is relaxing, and green brings that same sense of ease into an interior.’
Jan adds, ‘When styling celadon, I like to keep the palette layered. Ivories are always beautiful with green. I also love pairing it with muted corals, blush tones and blues, especially turquoise. Celadon is most elegant when the surrounding colors are equally considered and refined.’

Perfect for refreshing a dark room, celadon has an uplifting, light-hearted quality. Proven by this sophisticated family room (pictured above), interior designers Todd Nickey and Amy Kehoe, founders of Nickey Kehoe remark on celadon green’s ability to soften and soothe.
‘This room was previously quite dark and cocoonish. This young family had a baby on the way, and the natural instinct was to enliven and lift throughout the loft. We still loved the complete saturation of the dark walls that were there; we chose a mint green for every surface. Using a single, immersive color immediately shifted the atmosphere.’
Unlike sage green paint, which feels much more muted than celadon, the latter provides respite against the darker furniture and lack of daylight. Todd and Nickey continue, ‘This color, with the primarily vintage furnishings and lighting, struck a balance of sophistication and invitation. The celadon-leaning mint shifts beautifully with the light and softens the industrial qualities of the loft while creating a distinctive, atmospheric backdrop for gathering and entertaining.’
What to read next
Considering the colors that go with green, Nickey and Todd acknowledged the undertones of celadon and brought in warmer layers to counteract its coolness. ‘Firstly, we try to use paint colors that are slightly “to the left or right of the known color”. In this instance, this room leans mint. By selecting a more nuanced version of the color, you’ve set the room apart, and it is ready to subtly interact with the layers. There are countless iterations to play with given this palette, but a tried and true approach would be to bring in smoky ebonized or rich brown wood finishes. In this room, the dusty pink rug as well as the umber brown branches in the Tree of Life fabric are two color stories that balance and enrich the palette.’

A dusty pink would keep the room soft. Pale blue is an easy choice as it brings a flavor of the outdoors into the room. Darker tones, such as a soft brown, also work to give a cozy feeling.’
