The sculpture of the Roman Goddess has for years stood in the gardens in front of Cartwright Hall art gallery.

But in spring 2024 the statue – a replica of Diana of Versailles, a second century marble statue in the Louvre Museum in Paris – was temporarily replaced.

In its place was a large blue modern art sculpture by Osman Yousefzada, whose Where It Began exhibition was taking place in the gallery.

That artwork, which divided opinion, has been in place in the Bradford Council run park since – including during the period the gallery hosted the 2025 Turner Prize exhibition which was attended by over 79,000 people.

But late last month the Yousefzada sculpture was removed and the Diana sculpture returned to her original spot.

The Turner Prize exhibition ended on February 22, and Cartwright Hall is currently closed until later this month while staff renew the gallery, returning numerous long standing pieces and prepare for a number of new exhibitions.

The gallery’s Refreshment Rooms café will re-open on March 10.
