Champion trainer Chris Waller will mount a dual assault on the All-Star Mile this Saturday as he tries to win the race for the first time.
Waller will saddle up Buckaroo and Leica Lucy in the $2 million event at Flemington and is particularly buoyed by the chances of the Cox Plate runner-up after his eye-catching effort in the G1 Futurity Stakes first-up.
“It was great to see Buckaroo finishing his races off like we know he does,” Waller said.
“It’s exciting; he’s good at a mile and he’s got form around the right horses, so he’s back.”
2025 NZ Oaks heroine Leica Lucy is also coming through the Futurity Stakes, where she finished fifth, just over a length behind the winner Pericles.
“She finished off really well first up… got back and came up arguably the worst part of the track,” Waller said.
“She’ll come on nicely for the run. She had a couple of Group 1 placings last spring… it looks like she’s come back a bit better.”
Buckaroo is at $8 in Sportsbet’s market for the All-Star Mile, while Leica Lucy is rated as an $13 chance.
