Martin Lewis has warned people to make an important check to ensure they don’t leave their pension to their ex partner.
Speaking on the Martin Lewis Money Show on Tuesday (3 March), the finance guru explained how most private or workplace pensions sit outside of your will and it is the pension provider or the scheme’s trustees who decide where the money goes.
He explained: “You can tell them what you would like to happen on a form that is called an expression of interest or nomination form. You often do it when you first sign up to the pension, but you might not remember. But you need to ensure it is up to date.”
He added: “You would be staggered by the amount of times I hear of people who’s ex have got the pension.”
