“It took multiple people to pull her out, revealing the extent of her injuries – including a pole that had pierced through her leg and severe damage to her ankle.”
Jennifer Keenan was injured when a makeshift bridge she was crossing in the Philippines collapsed.
As they were on a small island, Keenan couldn’t be taken to a hospital. Instead, she was taken to a small medical centre for treatment, news.com.au reported.
“I just lay down on the kayak and I put my hat over my head … I just didn’t want to go into shock,” she said.
“I was yelling at everyone to put gloves on … I was just freaking out. The room was just filled with all these people speaking this language I couldn’t understand. They put some sort of pill in my mouth, which was an antibiotic. Then that was it, they put me back in the kayak and to a boat that was ready to take me to the hospital.”
She was put on a boat for two-and-a-half hours to be taken to the nearest hospital.
Keenan has since been airlifted to Manila, where she is still recovering.
The GoFundMe page has been created to support her as she recovers.
