Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling made their first public appearance in a decade, appearing together on The Tonight Show on March 5.During Gosling’s guest appearance, he brought out his wife to wish her happy birthday.Their last outing was over 10 years ago.
It’s pretty clear that Ryan Gosling is a total wife guy—even if he and his wife Eva Mendes prefer to keep their relationship as private as they possibly can. The pair are famously low-key with their relationship and haven’t made a public appearance together in 13 years—that is, until now.
On March 5, Gosling made an appearance on The Tonight Show to promote his upcoming film Project Hail Mary. During his conversation with host Jimmy Fallon, he revealed that it was actually Mendes’s birthday—and she was backstage at that very moment. One thing led to another, and soon enough, Mendes had been brought out on stage where Fallon led the crowd and the band in a rousing rendition of “Happy birthday” as Mendes and Gosling grinned at each other. Mendes was reportedly even wearing her husband’s striped shirt. So freaking cute!

Mendes and Gosling met on the set of The Place Beyond the Pines back in 2011. Though they’ve never confirmed their marital status, Mendes called Gosling her “husband” in 2022. They share two daughters, Esmerelda and Amada.
The pair are famously private and have only ever appeared together on the red carpet while promoting The Place Beyond the Pines back in 2012. Since then, Mendes has preferred to support her husband behind the scenes—and vice versa. In March 2024, Mendes thanked Gosling for “holding down the fort” while she went to an event. A few days earlier, she hung out backstage at the Oscars while Gosling performed an epic rendition of “I’m Just Ken” from Barbie. She later shared a funny post, writing, “You took Ken all the way to the Oscar’s, RG. Now come home, we need to put the kids to bed. 💋”

Mendes opened up about their relationship in an interview with The Times later that year, explaining that while they may not make many public appearances, Gosling always makes her feel sexy.
“The way my man looks at me is just…at times I’m like, ‘oh my God.’ That might not sit well with people, but so much of how I feel is a reflection of what he’s giving me,” she said.
And just last month, Mendes gave fans a peek inside their Valentine’s Day celebrations with photos of herself wearing a Project Hail Mary T-shirt on a bed.
Back in 2023, Mendes explained why she and Gosling prefer to keep their relationship private. After a fan wrote a comment expressing that they hoped the pair would do press together ahead of Barbie, she replied, “We don’t do those things together.”
The pair were spotted leaving a party in 2017.
