One person has died after a serious crash north of Dunedin, near Karitane.

Emergency services responded to the two-vehicle accident on Coast Rd about 9.25am, just south of Marks Rd.

One person died at the scene.

The Serious Crash Unit has carried out an examination and the road will
reopen shortly, police said.

Inquiries into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing.
