New York super-PI Jessica Jones is officially back, and about to face a “deranged” new serial killer. Fans may think it will be hard to top the Purple Man as a disturbing antagonist, but it’s clear that Marvel is about to try.
Introduced to Marvel Comics in 2001, Jessica Jones is a hard-drinking, self-loathing private eye with superpowers including enhanced strength, durability and flight. Played by Krysten Ritter, Jessica got her own Netflix show in 2015, running for three seasons. The character will soon enter the MCU in Daredevil: Born Again season 2, continuing her Netflix continuity.

THE POSTCARD KING! Jessica and Typhoid Mary finally get their hands on their prime suspect… THE POSTCARD KING, a deranged man who uses letters to influence his victims. But as they untangle his ramblings, a darker truth emerges – a secret network of murderers may be at play. But who is the puppet master pulling their strings?
Fans know very little about the ‘Postcard King’ so far, but it seems that he’s able to influence his victims by sending them mail, similar to the Purple Man’s coercive voice. Alias: Red Band #1 begins with Jessica finding some old friends dead after receiving a mysterious postcard.

As a ‘Red Band’ series, Alias is exclusively for an adult readership, with increased sex, violence and uncensored language. For this reason, Jessica’s new villain is likely to be one of Marvel’s darkest, taking her back to her introduction under Marvel’s MAX imprint.
Alias Has Introduced a Huge New Obstacle to Jessica’s Investigations

The first issue also reveals a huge new problem with Jessica Jones’ ability to pursue this new killer. Recently, Luke Cage replaced the Kingpin as mayor of New York. That makes Jessica of huge interest to the press, with paparazzi dogging her steps, waiting for a scandal.

Jess is used to pursuing criminals via questionable methods, employing violence, intimidation and bribery. With the press on her tail, she’s incredibly limited, and her response is dangerous to both herself and New York as a whole…
Jessica Jones Has a Shock Ally for This New Series

In her pursuit of the Postcard King, Jessica Jones will be allying with Typhoid Mary. A villain with dissociative identity disorder, Mary is a mutant with pyrokinetic powers, able to start fires with a thought. She’s also an amazingly skilled combatant with the reaction speed to parry a bullet.

Mary has multiple personas – the timid, fearful Mary; arrogant antihero Typhoid; misandrist, telekinetic killer Bloody Mary; and rational, balanced Walker. It seems that Jessica will be recruiting Typhoid to try and find the Postcard King, with the suggestion that Mary has her own reasons to want the serial killer stopped.
Typhoid Mary has become a dark mirror to Jessica Jones over the last few years. After marrying the Kingpin, she’s the former wife of the mayor, and is one of the few people who has been in Jessica’s shoes. However, with a mysterious ‘puppet master’ manipulating these killings, it’s possible that Jessica Jones may be making a huge mistake trusting this longtime villain as her partner.
Alias: Red Band #1 is available now from Marvel Comics.
