Tune up the ghostly Second Line parade band because the Overlook Film Festival is returning to New Orleans for its 10th anniversary celebration. Today, the festival announces its first-wave lineup, including its opening, centerpiece, and closing-night screenings, retrospective events, and details on when fans can see Rick Baker in person.
From April 9 through 12, Overlook will send America’s most haunted city into overdrive with 47 films (21 features and 26 shorts), including Obsession, Levitius, and Hokum. Other notable nightmares include Larry Fassenden’s latest movie, Trauma, Or Monsters All, the final film in a “personal quadrilogy bringing together the creatures from the previous films in the horror master’s long and varied career.” Need a Fessenden refresher? The Festival will also screen the film’s three pseudo-prequels: Black Out, Depraved, and Habit.
Also joining the lineup: Chili Finger, starring Judy Greer, Bryan Cranston, Sean Astin, and John Goodman; the burglary-gone-wrong black comedy Drag, starring Lizzy Caplan, Lucy DeVito, and John Stamos; and the new Faces Of Death, starring Barbie Ferreira and Charli xcx to make sure festivalgoers don’t sleep a wink that weekend. But, should you need a final fright, check out the much-anticipated Exorcist II documentary, Boorman And The Devil, and terrify your friends with an argument about the underrated sequel.
But what would a film festival be without some retrospectives? Overlook has the 100th-anniversary screening of A Page Of Madness, considered by many to be the first Japanese horror film ever made, accompanied by a six-piece orchestra. Finally, celebrating the 45th anniversary of An American Werewolf In London, Rick Baker will receive the Overlook’s Master of Horror award in person. Previous recipients include Roger Corman, Ernest Dickerson, Mick Garris, Mike Flanagan, Stuart Gordon, and Joe Dante, so he’s good company.
The Overlook Film Festival has a whole weekend of terrors for those daring enough to visit the French Quarter that weekend.
