George Russell led an ominous Mercedes one-two in the sole practice session for the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai.

The world championship leader produced a lap-time of 1:32.741 to top the times ahead of team-mate Kimi Antonelli by 0.120s, as the Mercedes duo were over 0.5s faster than the next-best car.

This was Lando Norris of McLaren, leading a McLaren-McLaren-Ferrari-Ferrari fight, with Lewis Hamilton in sixth, off the back of the gaggle.

However, Hamilton’s time was set on four-lap old soft tyres, compared to those ahead on first lap runs.

Max Verstappen was only eighth for Red Bull.
