Speaking about the period during an episode of the Friends Keep Secrets podcast, Sheeran described the moment he received the call from Seaborn.
He said: “The day Cherry rung me up and said that she had cancer, that was probably one of the worst days.
“That was probably the worst week because Jamal died that week as well and then we went straight into the court case. And then Shane died.”
But he said: “She’s fine, I mean she had the operation. She was pregnant at the time so that’s why it was difficult.
“She had the operation to remove the tumour after she’d given birth to our second child. Thankfully, touch wood, totally fine.”
Sheeran spoke on the podcast alongside Benny Blanco, Lil Dicky and Kristin Batalucco.
When Seaborn first sought medical help, she was told by a doctor “this is really bad” and that she had cancer.
She immediately called her husband and told him to cancel his plans while the couple waited for the results of further tests.
Doctors told Seaborn treatment options would not work while she was pregnant.
After a sequencing test was carried out on the tumour, the couple were told it was less severe than initially feared and surgery could take place after she had given birth.
Seaborn later spoke about the experience in Sheeran’s Ed Sheeran: The Sum of It All on Disney+.
She said: “It was the most incredible news. I nearly threw up when the surgeon told us we could wait to the end of the pregnancy to get the tumour out.
“We didn’t have to worry about delivering the baby early.”
Sheeran and Seaborn announced the arrival of their daughter Jupiter in May 2022.
The couple are also parents to their daughter Lyra, 4.
In the documentary, Seaborn described attending a follow-up scan months after the operation and waiting anxiously for the results.
She said: “Yesterday I had follow up scan in my arm to see if the tumour had come back. We were silent in the car as we were worried it would be bad.
“It was super triggering being in the same room when things weren’t so positive at the start of the year.
“The surgeon looked at the scans and it all looks good. The lymph nodes have all calmed down.
“That was amazing. It was massive for us.”
