Olivia Rodrigo once gave dating apps a try — but they just weren’t her thing.

Speaking with British Vogue for a cover story published on Thursday, March 19, the “Deja Vu” singer recalled her early struggles as she entered the dating pool.

“I felt I didn’t randomly run into people. I’m working in the studio with my producer all day… I’m more precocious with work — I had a lot of responsibilities — but in stuff like dating I’m still really young and learning,” Rodrigo, 23, told the outlet.

Some time after the release of her debut studio album Sour, she tried the dating app Raya for a month and she quickly discovered it wasn’t for her.

“I was like, ‘Wow, never again. It was just so bad,'” the “Happier” singer said. “I didn’t even see anyone cool! I thought I would see, like, ooh, some really hot actor guy.”

“I don’t even know any of these people… It’s [always] some weird ‘creative director,'” she said. “Like, you just don’t have a job.”

After the apps didn’t work out, Rodrigo took matters into her own hands and started DMing people.

“I had a pretty high success rate at the time,” she said. “But what does success mean? Going on a date? Sure. Were they good? No!”

“It’s so cringe thinking about my younger self dating. I just want to grab my shoulders. Like, ‘Girl, what? What are you doing?!'” she said, adding, “I like to pretend they never happened. Relationships these days are so weird! I don’t know if you find that. I’m definitely a lover girl. Like, I want to be in something committed and so in love. And yeah, it’s hard these days.”

Rodrigo was last linked to English actor Louis Partridge, with whom she sparked dating chatter in October 2023. Since then, they’ve largely kept their relationship out of the spotlight, and are rumored to possibly have split.

Speaking with Esquire UK in September, Partridge, 22, addressed the reaction to their outing at Wimbledon in July 2025 — and said he was not prepared for all of the attention they received.

“I was not aware that was going to be a thing,” he said. “I did see a lot of photos from that, [and] it felt quite public.”

“Olivia and I choose, or have been choosing, to not be so public,” he continued. “Obviously, it has been quite a big summer for her with Glastonbury, but there’s a sanctity to being private.”

Also in her conversation with British Vogue, Rodrigo gave a little teaser for what’s in store for her third studio album. She has yet to reveal to a title and release date.

“I’ve found a lot of inspiration from being in London,” she said. “I’ve spent so much time here over the course of making this album. It has a lot of songs that are London vibes, about experiences that I’ve had here.”
