Work has begun on the old Hillside workshops administration rooms in Hillside Rd.
The rooms were set to be demolished after a complete rebuild of the wider site. But after the Southern Heritage Trust became involved, the trust negotiated a purchase of the building from KiwiRail for $1.
The building will house the offices of the trust, on the top floor, with another couple of tenants on the ground floor.
Funding from the Takutai Trust made the renovations possible.
The building has been fenced off and work has begun. The building is being refurbished by Naylor Love, which originally built it. — Allied Media
