A key player in Daredevil: Born Again has confirmed their involvement in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, after its trailer ignited speculation.
The fourth Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man film, the Destin Daniel Cretton-led movie will see the titular protagonist navigating successful heroics and a lonely secret identity. Brand New Day stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo, Michael Mando, and Sadie Sink.
Recently, another MCU star revealed that she is, in fact, also in the film. Zabryna Guevara, who plays Sheila Rivera in Daredevil: Born Again, has confirmed via Instagram that she is in the trailer in a blink-and-you-miss-it moment. The actress shared the video alongside text reading, “Can you spot lil ole me in this clip?”
As mentioned, her appearance set off many fan theories. In Born Again, Sheila is an aide to Mayor Wilson Fisk/Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio). However, in the Brand New Day trailer, she is seen presenting Spider-Man with the key to New York City, seemingly implying that she has assumed the role of mayor from Kingpin. Notably, Born Again showrunner Dario Scardapane has made reference to the Mayor Fisk storyline ending with season two, making Sheila’s appearance in the Brand New Day trailer less surprising yet more intriguing.
This idea even made its way to D’Onofrio himself. A fan tweeted him about the possibility of Sheila replacing Fisk, to which he simply responded: “Love it.” Despite this, he later clarified his response, explaining that he “didn’t confirm anything” but “if it’s true, [he] love[s] it.”
“When replied ‘I love it,’ [that] was the first time I had seen anything about it; It remains to be the only [time] I have heard such a thing,” D’Onofrio continued. “I’m the last person to know anything about the future of our show or any other show for that matter. I only know about the job at hand. That is the absolute truth.”
Born Again season two premieres later this month, so how Fisk falls has yet to be revealed. Nonetheless, Sheila will be the one presenting the key to Spider-Man in Brand New Day, suggesting D’Onofrio may know more about how that transpires than he is letting on.
Fisk’s fate will be revealed as Daredevil: Born Again releases on March 24, 2026. Meanwhile, Guevara will be on the big screen when Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters on July 31, 2026.
