Denan Kemp, a former try-scoring wizard for the Brisbane Broncos and New Zealand Warriors, has declared Panthers star Brian To’o as the greatest rugby league winger to ever lace up the boots.

A four-time premiership winner, two-time Dally M Winger of the Year and two-time Brad Fittler Medallist, To’o has achieved nearly everything there is in the NRL, but it was his performance against the Roosters on Friday that caught the attention of Kemp.

Already regarded as the best winger in the NRL at the moment, the former Broncos and Warriors flyer took it one step further labelling him the greatest of all-time when it comes to wing players.

“It’s done, it’s full stop… Brian To’o is the greatest winger to ever play rugby league,” Kemp said on Saturday League Kick Off on SEN Radio.

“It’s the end of the conversation. There’s no but, there’s no maybe. “Statistically, in every single category essentially, outside of obviously scoring tries, he is the GOAT (Greatest of All Time).

“That try (against the Roosters) was nothing short of phenomenal, and that, what’s crazy is that came from… the 200 metre, PCM (post-contact metre) king. He’s a front rower on the wing. His job is to get you 200 metres, 100 metres of PCMs, he’s doing that as well.

“He’s doing the PCMs and he’s doing double grubbers. I’ve never seen a bloke with 100 PCMs plus two grubbers in one game in my life.”

Although To’o is only 27 years of age and still has plenty of seasons to go under his belt, Kemp believes the Panthers star has already overtaken the likes of Brett Morris, Hazem El Masri, Ken Irvine and Wendell Sailor, among others.

“The one knock, whenever you say this is the GOAT, they go ‘but the high ball’. Find me some footage of him losing the highballs,” Kemp added.

“There might be one-off games of some former greats that could go toe to toe with Bizza (To’o) or you could find a winger that might be a better finisher or something like that, but the full package of essentially being a front rower on the wing, but also be one of the great try scorers (elevates him).

“I think he’s won multiple Brad Fittler medals in Origin in losing series. His average in Origin is 200 metres a game. Bro, you know how hard that is in Origin? “(He’s) phenomenal.”

COUCHMAN’S TOUCHING MOMENT AFTER INJURY BLOW

Dragons’ second rower Ryan Couchman sought out Eels’ forward J’maine Hopgood post game to apologise for the tackle that is set to end his season.

During Sunday’s match, an ugly hip drop tackle resulted in a suspected ACL tear for Hopgood, which will see him sidelined for the remainder of the season.

However, Code Sports reports Couchman approached Hopgood post-match outside Parramatta’s dug-out to apologise, to which he responded kindly.

Couchman was sent to the sin bin and put on report following the tackle, which could see him face several weeks on the sidelines.

The Eels were still able to take home a 30-20 win over the Dragons despite the loss of Hopgood, sealing their second win of the season.

EX BLUES GREATS NAME ORIGIN SMOKEY

Former NSW Blues representative Paul Gallen and Mark Geyer have labelled in-form Penrith Panthers winger Thomas Jenkins as a potential ‘smokey’ to play State of Origin later this year.

The try-scoring leader, Jenkins has scored eight tries in three matches for the Panthers this season and is coming off a stellar showing in which he crossed the line four times against the Roosters last Friday night.

Taking his game to another level, the 25-year-old is arguably the most in-form winger of the competition at the moment, alongside teammate Brian To’o.

This comes just over 12 months since Jenkins was granted an early release from his contract with the Newcastle Knights at the end of 2024 and was unsigned going into 2025.

It was here that he signed with the St Marys Saints in the Ron Massey Cup competition before landing a NSWRL (NSW Cup) deal with the Panthers and later returning to the first-grade side.

Speaking on 2GB’s Continuous Call Team, Paul Gallen, a former Blues captain, admitted that Jenkins is doing everything in his power to push for an Origin debut.

However, he did state that there were “a couple of guys” ahead of him in the pecking order.

“He’s just doing the right things for Penrith at the moment, which at the end of the day is what you’ve got to do – play good for your club side,” Gallen said.

“If you’re going good enough for your club side, things can turn out the right way for you and you can be in the sky blue jersey.”

Some players ahead of Jenkins at this stage to replace Zac Lomax include Campbell Graham, Jacob Kiraz, Josh Addo-Carr and Mark Nawaqanitawase.

“He’s scoring tries for fun at the moment,” Geyer, who played in three matches for New South Wales in the 1990s, added.

“He just knows where the try line is and he gives 100 per cent. I love the way he plays.

“At the start of last year he was playing for St Marys in the Ron Massey Cup … and all of a sudden opportunities arise.“
